Apple Pie

Apple Pie - The Dressed Aesthetic

Have you ever noticed how particular clothing items can evoke certain kinds of food? Like a cocktail dress and a perfect martini (that one’s a given). Or an ocean print dress and a clambake. And if this beautiful 1950’s dress from a newly discovered shop Sweet Life Vintage were a culinary delight, she would almost certainly be apple pie. Warm and sweet with just a little bit of tarty sass.

I simply have no willpower when faced with a vintage gingham dress. Although I try to be a bit careful this time of year when shopping for myself due to funds being directed elsewhere (those Black Friday deals SLAY me tho), I gave myself a pass on this occasion. It took one glimpse of her gingham-cuteness and white scalloped trim, speaking to freshly baked pies and afternoons spent lazing on checkered picnic blankets counting clouds, before I pulled the trigger. What can I say – if they’re selling a fantasy, I’m buyin!

A little bit of a non-sequetor, but we need to discuss what’s happening south of my cupid’s bow. Although I don’t usually wax poetic about lipsticks much here on the blog (save for the occasional review of my favs), I feel it is my duty to tell you about my new great love: Ruby Woo. I know I’m a bit late (okay a lot late) to the M.A.C. party, but I never knew such perfection could exist in a lipstick. I was never very into matte colors – because I’m a self-confessed lip smoosher, I always found mattes to be too dry. But here’s a secret I discovered: when I wear matte lipstick I don’t smoosh!

This is simply the most perfect red. Deep and vibrant, but not too over the top. I used it with the Cherry lip liner, and had no feathering at ALL throughout the day. Plus, I did a tissue test about an hour after application by attempting to blot – and nothing came off on the tissue. Wow. I’m converted.

Now, some of you might be saying, “Ohhhh Kara. Poor fool. We’ve known about Ruby Woo for ages.” Well, why did none of you tell me?? If you’re like me and haven’t discovered this shade, I highly recommend it. Pale girls – meet your new favorite red lipstick…

This marks the end of another week. Is it just me, or is time flying by at breakneck speed? I swear it speeds up as we approach the end of the year. And I really need December to take her sweet time. Really. I managed to get a ton of my Christmas shopping done, but definitely have a few more items to tick off the list (and if you need some gift ideas, you can check out my Christmas Gift Guide).

So, with the perfect red gingham dress and the perfect red lipstick, I’m ready to throw caution to the wind today and…well…probably do what I’ve been doing all week, which is write lectures. I swear, my need to be ridiculously prepared for everything is going to be my downfall. Ah well, at least I’ll look cute while doing it!

And now I want apple pie….

xoxo
