Beachy Keen

Beauty Keen - The Dressed Aesthetic

I’m sure I’m not the only one who wakes up on occasion and just wishes that, instead of work, I could go to the beach instead. Now, I know what you’re all thinking: “Ummm…aren’t you a marine biologist? Don’t you work at the beach?” I have a sad reality to confess (especially to any younguns out there who dream of becoming a marine biologist so they can spend their days sunbathing and swimming with dolphins): Although I hate to rain on the Awesome Job Fantasy Parade, most of the time we sad seafarers are in the lab looking down a microscope at once beach-dwelling things, or writing papers about that one time last year we got to go to the beach and do field work, or we’re writing grants to fund the time we want to go to the beach next year. As such, not much actual beach-going happens on a regular basis…

So, although my sunblock must stay in the cupboard today, the print on this Chicwish skirt has always reminded me of where the sand meets the surf. I can almost hear the waves lapping the shore, the crisp pop of a beer bottle cap finding its fate, the seagulls and friends calling to one another, not a care in the world.

This is one of three of the scenic print Chicwish Pleated Midi skirts that I own (I also have the Neon Lights and the Poppy Flower Print), and I have to say I love them all! Like my others, I got this in a Large due to reviews that said it ran small. However, I found this slightly too big on me (the waist measures 29″), but not unwearably so. This particular print is sadly no longer available, though I spied it in a silver colorway around Christmas, so it’s possible it might be making a comeback. They have so many stunning prints – and are currently offering 10% off sitewide for Valentine’s day with code VAL10, so now might be the time to get your midi skirt on!

So, with my skirt to keep myself beach-wistful self company, I’m off to the lab to make progress on more than a few projects. And all is not lost, because tomorrow is Australia Day, where we get to leave the lab and emerge blinking into the sun. It marks the commemoration of the founding of New South Wales back in 1788 and, much like the 4th of July back in the States, celebrations revolve around good BBQ, good friends, and a whole lot of beautiful fireworks.

Anyone have plans for Australia Day?
