Go Bright or Go Home

Go Bright or Go Home - The Dressed Aesthetic

I think for a lot of people, winter is a time for neutrals. It’s where I most often see black, dark browns, and taupes gracing the walkways. Occasionally I catch a glimpse of a cherry red coat here and there, but cold seems to invite layers of chocolate and navy. Of the somber and grey. As you’ve probably guessed, I’m not very good at playing by winter’s rules…

I like to think I am the bright starburst against a sea of grey in winter, cause I just can’t help but burst forth in as much color as humanly possible to combat the cold dreariness. Go bright or go home, I say! This dress from Sweet Bee Finds spoke to me the minute I saw the preview on Brooke’s Instagram, all sunshine yellow and buttercream cotton. Yellow is definitely my happy color. Especially necessary today, as we’re in the middle of what the news called a Frozen Cyclone Bomb (and no, I didn’t just make that up). The University shut down as of 2pm yesterday and we’ve all been tucked up at home, avoiding the icy streets.

At the risk of shattering the illusion that bloggers manage to photograph their outfits daily, I’m especially glad that I tend to shoot my outfits in advance on the weekend. There is NO way I want to expose myself (or my vintage) to the elements today. Although things are hopefully going to be lessening as the day progresses, I’d be a lot less sunshine and a lot more snowman if I stick so much as a glitter-clad toe out the front door right now.

Frozen Cyclone Bomb aside, I’m pleasantly surprised to find myself feeling relatively prepared this semester. Being able to see the course in its entirety and fine tune lectures (rather than frantically scramble to just Get. Words. On. The. Slide.) is an absolute luxury. My class officially starts on Tuesday, so I’ll be spending the next few days finalizing prep. The big question is: what should I wear on my first day of school??

Do you have a happy color?

xoxo
