Jingle Bells

Jingle Bells - The Dressed Aesthetic

There is no other time of year imbued with more magic than Christmas. It feels like the minute December 1st hits, everywhere starts to take on a bit of extra sparkle (and a bit of extra frenetic energy that only the stress of Christmas shopping can bring). By some miracle, I managed to finish my Christmas shopping last week and all things that needed to be shipped are safely in their intended destinations. Which gives me just enough time to sip cocoa and soak up a bit of Christmas magic.

Now that we’re back in the Northern Hemisphere, I feel the familiar nip in the air that inspires me to pull out my vintage cloaks and capelets. I grew up in Massachusetts, with 3 foot snow drifts and mountains of the white stuff piled on the side of the road, perfect for fort building. And then we lived for many years in Australia, where BBQs and sweltering heat prevailed each December. But now we seem to have settled somewhere in the middle – with enough of a chill to have me reaching for the hot cocoa but not so much that my favorite dresses can’t come out to play….

For me, this is the time of year to reflect on the good things we have. I know it can be a difficult time for some – it always seems to bring back the sharp pang of the people who are no longer with us or the difficulties we may be facing – but it’s important to breathe deep in the ways we are so very lucky. It’s a time to eat too much, share in the joy of gift giving, and appreciate your family, whether it’s the family you were born into or the family you’ve created.

It’s also a time when I am given free rein to style myself like a human Christmas tree! Sparkle on top of sparkle with a side of sparkle. I think that’s another reason to love Christmas – you can bring forth all manner of cheer and mirth, bust out your most sparkly outfits and over the top accessories, and sing on the doorsteps of strangers, and no one bats an eyelid.

My mom flies in tonight, so Mr. Dressed and I are spending the day racing around, making sure the guest room is ready and the fridge is stocked. Who knows, maybe I can convince her to make another appearance on the blog…

So, wishing you and yours a wonderful holiday season!

xoxo
