Luck of the Irish

The Luck of the Irish - The Dressed Aesthetic

St. Patrick’s Day has always been one of my favorite holidays. I’m 1/4th Irish, and that translates to pale bespeckled skin, a love of Irish pubs, and endless amounts of corned beef and cabbage gobbled each year (though the whole ‘Irish temper’ thing seems to have evaded me). So, I generally bust out my favorite green frocks on 17 March without fail to celebrate and I was pretty excited with this year’s selection….

Unbenounced to many, St Patrick’s Day actually has very little to do with drinking copious amounts of green beer (shocker, I know). It commemorates the death of St. Patrick (the most prominent patron saint of Ireland) and the cultural heritage of the Irish. Traditionally, it was the a “feast day,” and a period of Lent where alcohol restrictions were lifted, which likely explains why it (de)evolved into a day of drunken revelry and poor hat choices.

No matter what, I always associate St. Paddy’s with general camaraderie and good will, a day to celebrate and be celebrated, and a day to succumb to all things fun and indulgent. And a day to hope a little luck comes my way…

St. Patrick’s Day is an enchanted time – a day to begin transforming winter’s dreams into summer’s magic.

Lucky for me, this green vintage sailor dress came into my life recently from La Belle Vintage – and I couldn’t think of a more perfect holiday for her to make her debut. With her vibrant kelly green hue, lace trim, and sailor collar, she’s a dress that makes St. Patrick’s Day proud.

It’s been a pretty busy week – from my birthday celebrations (which were fabulous – I was showered in love and many items from my wishlist made it to my door. My family and friends seriously went overboard this year!) to busily planning for my next work adventure. And though St. Paddy’s Day was yesterday, I’m hoping to channel a bit of Irish Luck over into today, get through this Friday having ticked a few things off the list, and then skip down to the pub to greet the weekend with a pint and the appropriate amount of mischief.

Who’s with me?!?
