Mahjong Along

Mahjong Along - The Dressed Aesthetic

There are some dresses that you just feel absolutely smashing in. That you know you can always reach for and appreciate for their perfect fit and ease. For me, Trashy Diva dresses always fall into this category. I’m building quite a collection (coming onto 10 now) and they’re always the dresses I slip into my suitcase or pull on when I need a bit of extra oomph.

This Annette dress in Mahjong print is one I’ve had my eye on for ages. She’s a cut I haven’t dabbled in yet in the Trashy Diva range of silhouettes, but I loved the higher neckline and thin shoulder straps and the print stole my heart with its adorable mahjong tiles. On a recent conference in New Orleans, I treated myself to a bit of time alone to wander the French Quarter and visit Trashy Diva in all of her glory. Needless to say, I lost a few hours…

Like their website, the Trashy Diva brick and mortar shop is a vintage-lovers dream. Racks and racks of novelty prints, vintage silhouettes, shoes, and accessories had me absolutely drooling. The lovely ladies working that day were quick to offer advice or help as needed, but mostly they let me scour the racks to my hearts content and whisked my choices off to try on. The minute I pulled this cutie over my head, I knew it was love.

Firstly, she’s made of a lovely, breathable cotton voile, which is perfect for summer but also really comfortable to wear. Though it’s not easy to tell from their website, the skirt is super full and handled my fullest Malco Modes petticoat with room to spare. The dress is fully lined and comes with a matching belt, though I swapped with a black patent leather one in this outfit for some contrast. It also comes with the extra details I really appreciate – like adjustable straps (long waisted gals rejoice) and a hook an eye at the top of the zipper. I opted for the size 6 (my normal Trashy Diva size), which fit perfectly – according to the size chart, this is a 36″ bust, 28″ waist and 36.5 total length.

I’ve always loved their clothing, but I have to say my latest trip really made me fall in love with their customer service as well. If you follow me on Instagram, you’ll know this dress had to suffer through quite the journey before making her way to me. As my US trip was over 5 weeks, this beauty (and a crinoline) simply wouldn’t fit into my already bulging suitcase. So, the lovely ladies at Trashy Diva offered to pop her in the post. Somehow, the order was both mixed up and tampered with on her way to my closet. After a frantic email to customer service (in fear the right dress would be sold out), they reserved one for me, replaced the crinoline that had been stolen from my parcel, and even paid for me to return the incorrect dress from Australia. Before I knew it, this dress was safely in my arms and her woeful days of being lost were forgotten.

Trashy Diva, you have a customer for life…

If you’re new to Trashy Diva, I highly recommend checking them out. Although you may at first glance find them to be on the pricey side, trust me when I say you get what you pay for. The cut, construction, and details are all flawless. This particular style retails for $176, but you can keep your eye on the site as they often have pretty amazing sales up to 30% off. You also get free domestic shipping when you spend over $200 with the code VINTAGE.

Now, my dress and I need to mahjong along to a series of meetings – work to do, brains to collect!

xoxo
