Pencil Me In

Pencil Me In - The Dressed Aesthetic

By now, I think most of you have a firm grip on my style. Though the characters change, the storyline is generally the same: fitted bodice, cinched waist, and a full twirly skirt. But as I said last year, I think it’s always important to step outside of our style comfort zones now and again and boldly go where my lower half rarely ventures…

Into a pencil skirt. Truthfully, I LOVE pencil skirts. I love their sass and the swing they put in my hips. For some reason, though, I don’t find myself reaching for them as often as I could. But every time I slip one on I’m reminded that, while circle skirts will always be the friend I can call at 3am, ever reliable and knows all of my secrets, the pencil skirt is the friend who you can go years without seeing, and once you’re reunited, you stay out till dawn and wake up with your sides sore from laughing so hard. And I couldn’t live my life without either of them.

This outfit was a look from this past weekend, where I can let my crop top flag fly. This top was another beauty piece I snagged from the Bindaring Red Cross Clothing Sale and I can already tell I’m going to get a lot of wear out of her. There’s just something about a crisp white crop top that helps me fool myself into believing I can make Autumn linger just a little bit longer (it’s getting harder and harder to perpetuate the lie).

I have a very busy week ahead and am going in guns and pencil skirt blazing. I have to finish a ton of data collection and prepare for an upcoming conference. We also have several members of the lab off in South Africa for field work, and I’m ready to spring into action should it turn out they need something sorted or forgot a vital shark-related piece of equipment that needs immediate shipping. I’m ready people, just say the word.

How’s your week shaping up? Don’t forget to pencil in some fun…

xoxo
