Raindrops on Roses

Raindrops on Roses - The Dressed Aesthetic

I have probably seen the Sound of Music about 12 billion times. The music, the family dynamic shift, the historical context, Julie Andrews twirling on a mountain top – I just love it all. I remember coveting Liesl’s dress in “I am 16, Going on 17” and having serious wardrobe envy over the drapery-meets-dresses, make it work moment (clearly). But, the song I find myself still humming today always starts with, “Raindrops on roses…”

If I were to draft a song of my favorite things, I’m sure the lyrics would be a surprise to no one: Science. Vintage. Coffee. Border prints. My husband’s laugh. Garlic bread. Glittery heels. Broadway musicals. Dirty martinis. And endless oceanic fathoms. Not necessarily in that order.

During one of my many trips to Oh Henry Vintage, I nearly fainted at the sight of this beautiful vintage dress and realized that she ticked off many a box in my personal list of favorites. A perfect 1950’s border print dress, with a fitted bodice and twirly skirt. Vibrant reds, crisp whites, and hints of grey, as if the dress is about to burst into song herself. Hand me a martini and a loaf of garlic bread, and I can seriously die happy…

Given that this apple bag is popping up in many an outfit lately (cause in point here), clearly it is among my favorite things at the moment. There are definitely certain pieces of my wardrobe that inspire me in a given period, where I wear them with everything. And then, like a normal ebb and flow, they’re reabsorbed by my wardrobe to binge on again one day.

Though some things are unavoidable (like taxes or impending deadlines), I believe life should be mostly full of your favorite things. Though we can’t languish day in and day out on a tropical beach awaiting our next massage, we can make sure the best things in life make a daily appearance (if not a thrice daily appearance). As such, I plan to belt out some showtunes on the way to work, have several coffee’s today with one of my favorite people (while we science), all the while sporting this beautiful frock and making the awesome happen.

So tell me, what are your favorite things at the moment?

xoxo
