{Review} The Grace Dress by Hearts and Found

{Review} The Grace Dress by Hearts and Found - The Dressed Aesthetic

A few months ago I discovered the amazing shop Hearts and Found – and introduced you all to the cutest ever play skirt set I had ever laid eyes on. If you’ve never heard of Hearts & Found before, they’re a swoon worthy Etsy shop who make beautiful vintage inspired clothing – and all of them can be made to your exact measurements! Even better, they have a mission to support local businesses and tailors and source all of their fabrics from local Vietnam markets. I was so smitten with my last experience I knew it was only a matter of time before I had to give one of their dresses a whirl…

If you can’t already tell, I was really excited for the chance to work with Marjorie again, owner of Hearts and Found and purveyor of all the beautiful dresses, skirts, and playsets. Though I spent ages deliberating (the cuts! the fabric!), I opted to try out the Grace Dress. It’s a stunning 1950’s silhouette with a ruched bodice and full, gathered skirt. Lover of all things border print, the Russian Blue in Folk floral border print was calling my name. And polite gal that I am, I knew I had to answer her…

As with my last Hearts and Found order, this dress was impeccably made. I opted to go for custom measurements again, and it was just as easy as the first time around (for reference, I am 35-36″ bust, 27-28″ waist, and 19″ shoulder to waist (over bust) and 17″ nape to waist). The fit was absolutely impeccable and spot on to the measurements I gave them. With the knee length (tall – 26″) option, she fell just below my knees at that “perfect” length I very rarely get. As someone who doesn’t very much like her crinolines to show, I was really pleased you couldn’t glimpse my Malco Modes Meghan petticoat.

The fabric is a high-quality cotton that holds its shape beautifully – complete with a hidden back zip and pockets (is a dress without pockets worth having? I think not…). You can tell a lot about a company by the care and attention to detail. I so appreciated the adjustable straps and the fact that the hem was hand-stitched. The bodice is lined in the same fabric as the dress, and the skirt is lined in a breathable cotton voile. They really don’t scrimp on the fabric of the skirt – I can tell at least 3m went into this baby, holding two full petticoats without breaking a sweat. I was also so impressed with the saturation of the colors – I felt like a bright summer’s day, despite the chill that’s in the air lately.

Now, I feel we need to discuss the bustline on this dress. Seriously. I have tried on many a vintage beauty with this ruched bust effect, and I can rarely find one that works for me – to suit my waist, the bust is usually too small, giving me the underarm pudge we are all so fond of. But, this is the bustline dreams are made of. Seriously, my bosoms have never known such joy.

The Grace dress retails for $80 USD for sizes XS-XL and $90 for XXL-4XL. You can also opt to have it made to your custom measurements (which I highly recommend) and a range of hem lengths, for no extra cost. The turnaround time for my order was really quick – I was emailed promptly to confirm my measurements (always appreciated), and it took less than 2 weeks from order, to creation, to delivery. It also came adorably wrapped with a lovely note and cocktail umbrellas to boot (a cocktail with my new dress? Don’t mind if I do…)

If you’re  smitten with this dress or others, Hearts and Found has generously offered a coupon code exclusive to my readers! Right, I need to go find some woodland creatures to sing with. Seriously feeling like a Disney princess in this dress!
