{Review} Pucker Up : Introducing Lola Von Rose

I make no secret about my love of dresses. But, I hope I’ve equally conveyed how in love I am with handbags. Novelty bags, lucite, leather, suede. I want all the handbags. I admittedly went through a period of my life when I owned one handbag and never gave it a second thought (we shall pause to reflect on the horror). Needless to say, I’ve made up for lost time since then.

I have a special, deep love for vintage lucite handbags. My wallet, however, is forever tut-tutting at me. True lucite bags are getting more and more expensive and more and more rare. As such, my Visa card is getting more and more stern. So, I was beyond excited for the chance to review a bag from a newcomer on the scene – Lola Von Rose. Having only launched in July, Lola Von Rose makes absolutely stunning handbags that pulls inspiration from the true vintage lucite bags I love so much, but doesn’t break the bank. As someone who likes to keep her finger on the vintage pulse, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on one. Purely for research, you see. Eh hem.

This crimson red beauty arrived on my doorstep a few weeks ago and I was floored. The cherry color popped like a fire engine and the lacquered surface sang the song of the ghost of outfits future. Ohhhh were we going to have some fun….

The Curves & Content

As you can no doubt tell, this Lola Von Rose bag is as sleek as she is shiny. With curves like a Corvette, she had me at hello. In addition to being pretty (can we take an extra minute to admire the pretty??), she’s also super functional. In my opinion, this makes the perfect day to evening bag – I felt a bit of extra pizzazz as I raced around between meetings with her on my arm, and knew she would feel just as at home in the fanciest restaurant in town. I found her to be surprisingly spacious – it measures 9.5″ in length, 3.25″ in height (not including handle), and 4.75″ in width – housing my iPhone, keys, small wallet, and lipstick with room to spare. Though most gals need to carry the world around with them, I always find it liberating to use a smaller bag.

I loved the durability of the hinges, the perfectly ohm-shaped handle, and the true attention to detail. This didn’t appeared to be a thrown together reproduction – like true lucite bags, every curved edge was carefully crafted. I love knowing I can trust that a bag won’t snag on my vintage chiffon or get tangled in my 1950’s lace. There was true art in the lines of this bag and I can’t help but smile every time I see that cherry red winking at me.

I knew there was no other way around it – this bag deserved to stand centre stage, paired with my Bernie Dexter Kelly dress, whose lips matched my attitude. She nestled into the crook of my arm today and we were off!

The Facts & Figures

In general, when I fall in love with something so completely, with so much abandon, it is usually way outside of my price range. An entire shop could be on sale save for one dress, and that’ll be the dress I want. It’s inevitable. So, I was over-the-moon thrilled with a price tag of only $64.00 (+ shipping) for these bags! Trust me when I say the price point is SO beyond reasonable for the quality.

I am ridiculously happy with this bag – style, quality, and versatility all get a 10/10 in my book. She was welcomed into my closet with open arms and I’m already thinking of the million outfits to style her with. In addition to red, this Bag of Awesome also comes in blackwhite, and pink, with mint green (!) coming soon. The only dilemma is which one to get first!

Anyone else swooning over these bags? Let me know in the comments section!
