{Review} : Take Me to the Moon : The Luna Swing Dress - The Dressed Aesthetic

In this day and age, we’re all trying to make our money last and stretch as far as possible. Looking for ways to make old things seem like new, or new things last. So, you can imagine my excitement when I meet a dress that can serve double duty, with multiple looks in one. Enter the Luna Swing Dress by Unique Vintage.

We all know about the classic LBD – the dress every woman needs at least one (or three) of in her wardrobe. The silhouette may vary, but the LBD is the essential canvas, ready to be dressed up with a bit of sparkle or a splash of color, or ready for an afternoon of racing around with flats and a carry-the-world-around handbag. So, I was really excited to give the Luna Swing Dress a whirl – at first glance, she already seemed like my perfect LBD: fitted bodice, full twirly skirt. But, when I spied that delicate floating caplet, the styling possibilities swirled around my head and I was a goner….

As per the UV size chart, I fit squarely in the medium category for the Luna. I am a 36″ bust and 27/28″ waist, and always tend to fit my bust first and deal with the waist second. This dress fit on the larger side of the size chart, which was a bit big in the waist on me. My dress measured 36-37″ bust and 29-30″ waist (the fit was similar to the Darcy dress I’ve reviewed before). This dress is 97% cotton with 3% spandex, so there is also bit of stretch. If you aren’t as busty but have similar waist measurements to mine, you may be able to get away with a Small in this. If I had sized down, I think we would have been venturing into uni-boob territory, so I was happy with the fit of the bust and will likely take in the waist at some stage. For now, a belt cinched in the waist perfectly.

She has all of the things that together comprise my Happy Place: Sweetheart bodice, a back zip with hook and eye (side zips vex me), super full twirly skirt (two crinolines and counting) and pockets (!). Another feature (which is honestly becoming my must-have) is that the double straps are adjustable. I think these are brilliant and I may start avoiding any repro without them. It eliminates my main stress with buying online, because I don’t have to worry it won’t fit my longer torso. I also loved the double straps – it really gave it a bit of extra pizazz – though we want our LBDs to be a canvas and a wardrobe staple, we want them to be anything but basic.

Speaking of non-basic, I need to take a minute for this cape. It’s so beautiful and ethereal, with the perfect amount of drape and a sweet Peter Pan collar. It measures at 15.5″ neck circumference, which was perfect for me (plus some stretch in the button loop). It is made from 100% polyester, but actually felt really lovely. My only struggle was getting the wrinkles out – I personally found steaming it to be best, as I’m not sure the delicate fabric would hold up to copious amounts of ironing. The best part of the cape really how versatile it is. I opted to wear it with the opening in the front, but it can also be flipped around so the closure is at the back, which is how’s it’s modeled on the UV website. This dress seriously comes with endless styling options, and I’m already imagining it paired with a ton of other dresses in my wardrobe when an added bit of mystery & sass is required…

I opted to go with pop color accessories with this dress (I am ME after all), but can see it being really chic in all black and white, a la Chanel. I love the idea that I could wear this dress 5 different times, and never look as if I was wearing the same piece. Cardigans, jewelry, cape on or off, it may be one of my new favorite versatile wardrobe staples.

The Luna Swing Dress retails for $118 from Unique Vintage. Given that this set provides multiple outfits in one, I think it’s more than worth the price tag. They ship all over the world, with free shipping within the US for orders over $150 (so if you throw in a cute handbag, you’d get your order shipped for free! I’m kind of obsessed with this one personally).

To sweeten the price further, Unique Vintage is offering a coupon code exclusive to my readers! From now until 30th September you can use code DRESSED20 to get 20% off any full-priced purchase from the Unique Vintage website (excludes sale items, Dress of the Month Club, Catch of the Day, Gift Cards and Flapper Dresses).
