Some Necessary Sparkle

Wardrobe Weaponry - The Dressed Aesthetic

In my opinion, there are certain items every woman needs in her wardrobe arsenal. These include (but are not limited to): (1) the perfect little black dress (paired with the the perfect red lipstick), (2) killer heels that put a swing in your hips and a raise of your eyebrow, (3) a vintage jacket to nip the waist in something fierce, (4) a sundress to twirl in and (5) the comfiest pajamas (I firmly believe in this last one. As much fun as it is to dress up, it’s SO much fun to come home and crawl into fleece).

For me, the other vital components of a wardrobe are the special pieces. The ones you can whip out on a moments notice should you receive last minute invitation to the opera or are planning to attend a spontaneous wedding. The ones with a bit of sparkle and flair that you feel amazing in. I will admit I probably have more of these kinds of dresses than most (and have no qualms about wearing them on a Tuesday evening dinner), because I love knowing when the occasion strikes, they are sitting and waiting in glittery anticipation.

This beauty turned up under my Christmas tree this past year from the Mister. I never take for granted how endlessly lucky I am to have a husband who not only gets my style, but is fearless when it comes to clothing purchases for me. He is constantly surprisingly me, sometimes pushing me in a new direction (like this one), but always celebrating my style for exactly what it is – feminine and sparkly, with a whole lot of tulle.

I have a lot of events coming up this month that call for a bit of sparkle – receptions and conference dinners and celebrations for old friends. And when it came to tucking this dress into my suitcase, I didn’t even hesitate. Because what’s better than a dress you know you can always count on? With her pink undertones and a gold lace overlay, I feel as if I’m wearing candlelight. This one really epitomizes my die hard philosophy: “Buy the dress first. Make the event later.”

As I’ve been hinting, there is a LOT of travel this month. It might get a bit quiet around here for a bit as I’m whizzing through June, but my organized self still plans to have a steady stream of pretty vintage, internal musings, and the occasional fall-down-laughing moments.

Have a great week!

xoxo
