Flower Child

Flower Child - The Dressed Aesthetic

It is no secret that I am a lover of the 3D appliqué. To me it’s one of the hallmarks of 1950’s fashion – harking back to a time when someone painstakingly hand-stitched elements onto a garment to make it truly one of a kind. In today’s world of fast fashion, where things are barely made to endure a walk round the block, I have an even deeper appreciation for the person who took their time. Who made a piece to last a lifetime. To make a woman stand in sharp relief, instead of fade into the background.

{Review} Pucker Up : Introducing Lola Von Rose

I make no secret about my love of dresses. But, I hope I’ve equally conveyed how in love I am with handbags. Novelty bags, lucite, leather, suede. I want all the handbags. I admittedly went through a period of my life when I owned one handbag and never gave it a second thought (we shall pause to reflect on the horror). Needless to say, I’ve made up for lost time since then.

Window to the Past - The Dressed Aesthetic

Like any good vintage-loving girl, I can’t help but romanticize the past. I fully acknowledge we have the luxury of looking back with rose colored glasses, and gazing at historical paintings or imagining the romance of the Renaissance and a life lived on horseback is very likely not all it’s cracked up to be (I mean, they didn’t even have indoor plumbing. Or wifi). But, in the crazy, fast paced world we live in, there is something so appealing about a simpler time.

Going Far Afield

I think we all have certain elements of clothing we just can’t resist. For me, that element is a beautiful print. In particular, a scenic print. And it honestly doesn’t matter how many scenic print dresses Bernie Dexter produces – I will want them all! I try (with a certain degree of effort) to minimize my scenic print craze to one-print per style, and I’m proud to say that while my resistance often fails on many counts, this is my first of her Paris style dresses.

Something Winter This Way Comes…

Truth be told, I don’t really have a designated “winter wardrobe.” I know there are people who even rotate through their closets by season, boldly packing away their summer dresses and strappy sandals during the winter months. However, if I were to pack away everything that the laymen would file under the the category of “summer,” I would probably be left with about four things in my closet. And my dresses would be so sad, wondering why I abandoned them without warning…

Into the Woods

Surprisingly, I am a huge fan of the outdoors. I only say surprisingly because you’d take one look at me and assume that the thought of leaving my heels behind for a weekend would be a tantamount to a death sentence. Now, although I agree that the wonders of a mattress and a hot shower cannot be denied, I’ve always been a huge fan of camping and diving and boating and everything in between. I don’t always get back to it as often as I’d like, but every time I do it seems to center me.
