DIY: Cherry Delight

I make no secret of the fact that I am a lover of all things cute. All manner of things whimsical in nature. If it’s glittery or in the shape of some sort of food (case in point here), I literally can’t keep myself from purchasing it. So, I was uber excited when the effervescent Sarah from the blog AskSarah emailed me  – another fab Aussie blogger who loves to sew and embraces her entrepreneurial spirit? Yes please! She was embarking on a DIY to make whipped cream with a cherry on top shoes and offered to do a guest post (Yes, you…

{Tailoring}: Ribbon Roulette

My height (at a respectable 5’9 or 175 cm) was a definite source of despair when I was young. I sprang up like a bean sprout and had no idea how to manage my gangly limbs, which felt like a bunch of sharp angles that lacked a common goal. I’ve definitely grown into my height in later years (and admittedly make myself even more Amazonian with 5 inch heels!) But, as I’ve mentioned before, my fabulous vertical prowess also comes complete with an exceptionally long torso. While I fully (now) embrace my elongation, I have to admit there’s been many a vintage dress I’ve…

Spotlight On: Capsule Vintage

Once every month or so, I’m turning the Spotlight On some of my favorite vintage treasure troves – both local and online – and give you a bit of insight into the shop owners and their curation process (see last month’s feature here). Today’s spotlight is on one of my very favorite etsy shops: Capsule Vintage. One question I am hands-down asked most often is: Where on EARTH do you find these dresses?? To find out the answer to this question, read on….

Home Grown, Home Sewn

One of the best interests I ever followed through on was learning how to sew. It’s empowering to be able to make your own clothes and to make the clothes you buy fit perfectly. I tend to make a beeline for the $10 pile in an op shop that are full of beauties that need a zip replaced or torn seams repaired – they no longer seem disposable, but full of opportunities to make like new again. It also changes the way you view your body – it’s no longer about changing yourself to fit the clothes, but changing the CLOTHES you fit…

Spotlight On: La Belle Vintage

Calling all vintage lovers! I’m always getting requests for vintage store recommendations, so I wanted to start a “Spotlight On” feature on the blog, where I introduce you to some of my very favorite vintage haunts. At the very least, when people ask me “Where on EARTH do you find these dresses?” I can point them here! I thought I would get the ball rolling by introducing you to La Belle Vintage, which is literally a treasure trove of vintage confections that will make your heart sing and your Visa card quiver…
