Bright Lights, Big City

Bright Lights, Big City - The Dressed Aesthetic

I’ve done a fair bit of traveling in my life, and have lived in some weird and wonderful places. From the bright lights of Boston all the way to a tiny fishing village in New Zealand, back to sunny San Diego and then across to peaceful Perth. And although I would never call myself a City Girl, because I love the outdoors too much, there is just something about the pace of a bustling metropolis that feels so invigorating.

Perth is not what you would call a big city, but it’s almost exactly the right size for me. Not so big that I feel lost in a sea of faces, but not so small that everyone knows my business (I’ve done the living-in-a-fishbowl thing. Never again). But, I do feel nostalgic for my hometown now and then. So whenever I think wistfully back to walking the streets of Boston, taxis honking as I meander in front of their impatient headlights, feeling the pulse of the city and the energy breathed into each step, I have this Chicwish Neon Light Pleated Midi Skirt to keep me company and remind me I am never too far from the bright lights.

I don’t know about you guys, but there were so many incredible Black Friday deals zooming around, I almost imploded form the excitement of it all! My favorite skirts from Chicwish were on sale, including this Neon Light Pleated Midi Skirt. I absolutely love the print, which perfectly captures the fast pace of a night spent painting the town red, dodging traffic as you dart out into the glittery night.

If any of you are interested in this skirt (or any of the pleated midis), I will say I was pleasantly surprised by the quality when I bought my first one. Although it’s 100% polyester, it’s of reasonable weight and feel for the price ($39-$48 USD) and has a glorious fullness (made even better with my petticoat) and pockets (!), which always kicks skirts and dresses up a notch. I found the sizing to be surprisingly true for me, contrary to what a lot of others found. A fair number of the reviews stated this skirt ran small, so I went with a size Large (stated to be a 29″ waist) instead of my usual size Medium (as I’m a 27-28″) to be on the safe side. When it arrived, I found it a bit loose on my waist (bearing in mind I like my skirts high waisted and cinched), and measured it to find it to be exactly 29″. So, for my next one, I’ll try a medium to see how I fare.

The prints are just luxe and I’m such a sucker for a photo scenic print (The Icy Forest and Oh London prints are next on my list…) I definitely feel pretty sassy today skipping around town, running errands and preparing for some of my very best friends who are arriving tonight from the States, ready to take Perth by storm.

Perhaps once they arrive we’ll hit the town? I am already dressed for the occasion, after all….
