Candy Cane Conundrum

You know that feeling of responsibility you have when determining whether or not to buy something? Weighing the pros and cons of cost vs. the gap in your wardrobe that needs filling. You see a gorgeous item and the mature thing to do is walk away because you really don’t need another dress/pair of shoes/handbag/fill-in-the-blank-with-appropriate-fashion-obsession? You are highly conscious of your budget and that keeps your visa card planted firmly in your wallet.

Yeah, so occasionally all of those things fly out the window as quickly as your visa card flies out to greet the new beauty in your life with open arms. This dress. THIS DRESS. I love the princess seams, the amazing striped and polka dot inserts, the full skirt. This dress is all kinds of candy cane goodness on Christmas morning wrapped into one perfect vintage parcel. Suffice to say I had zero willpower when this beauty appeared in my Instagram feed and I don’t have one second of regret about it! There are just certain things that are meant to be. Welcome home, pretty dress…

This dress, coupled with my Scottie dog heels and the cutest bag in the history of bags, brings some much needed vibrancy into the week. I am SO happy it’s Friday. We’re thankfully about to wrap up our marine neuroscience course, which means the end of lecturing for awhile, and a conference I was helping to organize just finished last night and went off without a hitch. Needless to say, a weekend is exactly what I need to recharge my batteries a bit and make a plan of attack for the week ahead (in science, we need battle plans).

Come to think of it, life simply hasn’t slowed down at all this year. We’re already in April and I feel I have whiplash from watching the first three months of 2015 fly by. So it’s probably fitting that this would be an absolutely perfect Christmas dress, because there’s a part of me that still feels like it could (should?) be December.

Oh, why can’t it be Christmas still??? Happy almost-weekend everyone!

xoxo
