Checks Please - The Dressed Aesthetic

Dressing for transitional seasons is always a bit of a challenge – it seems to easy to find summer sundresses and winter coats, but finding the perfect look for spring & autumn is always a little tenuous. I’ve had my fair share of misjudging morning temperatures only to end up freezing or roasting hot by the end of the day. The struggle is real people…

Since I seem to now live in a town that experiences all four seasons in one day, I’ve been experimenting a lot with the joy of layering. This amazing checkered dress from Grant & Garbo Vintage has been languishing in my closet for months, staring longingly out the window and willing summer to get here sooner. Tired of reassuring her that summer was a mere three months away, I spied this perfect butterfly print blouse that I’d acquired from from Word from the Bird years ago, and poof! A Spring Outfit was born…

For some reason, my brain doesn’t naturally jump to layering tops under dresses. When I think of layers, I always think of piling cardigans on. Or wearing tights. But a whole new world has opened up when I looked through my closet for the number of shirts that I could rock with my rainbow of vintage dresses. And, as a bonus, it’s a great opportunity to try your hand at mixing prints. I’ve always thought of things like stripes and checks and polka dots to be a neutral of sorts – ready and waiting to be paired with anything that strikes my fancy.

Speaking of things that strike my fancy – if you haven’t already, be sure to head over and enter my giveaway! To celebrate the blog turning 3 (and me turning 3 plus another number), one lucky reader will win a $100 gift card to spend on Etsy! Entries are being accepted until Thursday at midnight, so get your vintage on!

In the meantime, I’ve got to get to work….
