There are few things that can make me happier than accessories. And though I’m not as on my game when it comes to things like earrings (nickel allergy) or rings (way too many shark dissections to make that practical), brooches are my jam. I think the word “brooch” tends to conjure up images of old ladies and doilies. Au contraire. There is a whole world of quirky, whimsical, fabulous brooches to take your outfit from mundane to magical. And I was so beyond excited to get to work with Daisy Jean Floral on this post, who’s brooch designs are too cute for words.
One of the very first ladies I ever followed on Instagram in my fledgling how-the-heck-do-I-apply-a-filter days was CurveCreation. She’s an inspirational pinup from Australia who rocks her fashion as well as she rocks her curves. Little did I know (how woefully unobservant in my Instagramming I can be), she’s also a fabulous entrepreneur. Turns out, she owns and runs Daisy Jean Floral, of which I was also an avid follower, which hand-makes stunning resin jewelry and hair accessories. They’ve been rocking it out with their recent collections, and I was so excited to get the opportunity to give their Halloween collection a whirl. I seriously stalked my postman….
The Daisy Jean Halloween collection ranges from bewitching witches to watchful owls to ominous crows. I opted for the As A Cat Does Brooch – not only am I an aspiring cat lady (one cat and counting! I just have to ease Mr. Dressed into the idea of a second), but, as you guys know, I like when my clothing can serve double duty. I love that this brooch can be styled to the spooky max for Halloween, but can also be worn year round, depending on my mood. I decided to go for my usual pop color with this look, but with an eerie twist. I don’t know why, but this dress from Atomic Blonde Vintage always reminded me of a hauntingly beautiful old mansion. Something that might be worn by the ghost mistress of the house, shrouded in with layers of black lace.
My brooch arrived and was just as cute as the pictures promised. It’s made of laser cut acrylic that has a hand painted design , which was coated in resin for a final finish. The cat winks at me atop a book (cause let’s face it, if you’re a cat and there’s a book, you’re ON IT, Halloween or not). The quality was truly amazing – you can really tell that there’s care and attention to detail that goes into each piece. And if any of you out there wear brooches, the pin was nice and sharp and didn’t snag on my cardigan (which is the first thing I look for). I also love that it’s handmade and that it supports a rockstar entrepreneurial woman that generally encourages body, mind, and spirit positivity.
The As A Cat Does Brooch retails for $35.00 AUD normally (but is currently on sale for $30AUD!). For something so beautifully hand crafted, this is an amazing steal. And considering mine made an incredible journey from Australia all the way to my sparkly cardigan, shipping was under two weeks from shipping to doorstep. As a gal who used to wait 3 weeks plus for her beauties to arrive when she lived in Australia, this is awesome.
If spooky isn’t your thing, Daisy Jean has so many amazing brooches (I may have already bought this one. Em hem). Everything from flower and butterflies to sweet treats that look good enough to eat! You can also keep up with all of the new Daisy Jean offerings by following them on Facebook and Instagram, where you’ll get sneak peaks of what’s coming into the store.
So, are you a brooch gal yet? Need me to convince you to be???
