Lemon Lime

Lemon Lime - The Dressed Aesthetic

Well, it’s officially sundress and cocktails weather! I don’t know about you, but this felt like the longest and most stubborn winter (I lost count of the number of times winter came running back into the room to yell, “And another thing!” this season). So, I was distrustful when the warm weather started to creep in, sure that she had no staying power. But sure enough, she’s here for good! And you know what that means? Sundresses! Strappy Sandals! Sunset strolls and cocktails on the porch!

Speaking of things finally making their appearance, this amazing one shoulder 1950’s border print dress from one of my all time favorite vintage shops Sweet Life Vintage has sat in my closet for ages. I own very few one shoulder dresses – I think it’s more of a rare 1950’s silhouette (and presents a bit of a bra challenge), but this piece may have converted me. Baring half of your décolletage feels like wearing a dress with a permanent wink.

One reason I found myself hesitating to wear this dress was due to a common lament: my insufferably long torso. As much as I love this dress, she was a bit too short in the torso for me to reach for her regularly (when a waist hits too high I wriggle and squirm all day). So, I used one of my favorite tall-girl life hacks: if any of you are similarly long waisted, find a ribbon in a complimentary color which can be stitched into the shoulder seam. In this case, I opted for two sets off satin ribbon in sunshine yellow. I carefully unpicked the shoulder seams and, after cutting four ribbons of equal length, I hand-stitched them to either side of the shoulder. Then, voila! I tied them to my desired torso length and was off.

Should you want to resell, it’s very easy to remove the ribbon and restitch the shoulders back to their original glory. Personally, I love the added sass the ribbons provide. And after such a hard days sewing, I definitely desired a cocktail….

Although there was one crazy flash rainstorm, there were definitely several sun-soaked strolls to be had this weekend. Although I couldn’t avoid work entirely (Brazil is looming and data needs to be analyzed), I did manage to catch up on a few sewing projects that have been lingering, snuck in a photoshoot for upcoming blog posts and indulged in some quality Mexican food that my husband has a knack for cooking.

One pretty major thing we kicked off this weekend was The Great House Hunt of 2018. As someone who has moved overseas every four years since I was 22, the thought of putting official roots down somewhere has felt like this far off mythical fantasy that only adults get to dream of. And yet, the Mister and I met with our new real estate agent on Saturday and got the ball rolling. I guess you can say the journey to adulthood has officially begun! Although I have loved the part of my life that involved overseas adventure and travel, I admit that having a place to permanently hang my hat (and vintage, and shoes, and handbags) sounds like the perfect next life milestone.

Who said adventure has to be about change? Cause right now the thought of staying put has me more excited than I ever thought possible….
