Party Animal

Party Animal - The Dressed Aesthetic

Truth be told, I’ve never been much of a party animal. Now, I can go out and let my hair down on occasion with the best of ’em, and certainly pulled a few all nighters back in the day, but it was never the place I felt most myself. Even in college I far preferred a night in with friends, binge watching our favorite movies, than a visit to a frat party. I always wanted quiet conversation over loud nights with strangers (or occasionally loud conversation over silent, awkward first dates). People have always said I was an old soul, with my love for Frank Sinatra and Bob Dylan, Dior New Look dresses and midcentury furniture. And though I can carry on a conversation with just about anyone (it’s a skill), there is still nothing better than coming home at night, shedding my clothes and donning my pajamas, and snuggling up to my Mister while he cues up Netflix.

Nowadays, I think my old lady tendencies are just getting worse. Not only does my closet resemble an old Hollywood movie star, with frothy ballgowns and furs, tea length dresses and border prints (not sorry), but I feel less and less drawn to the nightlife. All nighters are definitelya thing of my very-far-in-the-rearview mirror past, and Friday nights are for staying in and ordering pizza while we recover from the week. Staying up till 4am talking endlessly to a potential amour sounds exhausting and more than a few glasses of wine just puts me to sleep. And as I watch my gaggle of students head for the door after each class, twittering about their upcoming plans and past weekend ragers, I can’t help but smile knowingly. Some day their weekend dreams of hookups and lemon drops will soon give way to pajamas and binge watching This is Us. It’s simply the circle of life.

Although parties aren’t my jam, this amazing balloon-animal print dress from Hearts and Found definitely is. If you’ve never heard of Hearts and Found before, they’re an amazing Etsy shop that handmake a range of dress styles in a print of your choosing to your exact measurements (you can read a review here)! My collection of dresses from Marjorie is definitely growing, not unlike my love of naps. I found the Madeline dress to be perfection – she was a smidge long in the waist (which almost never happens to me), but I was able to make a quick adjustment to the straps and was ready to party. Or, you know, stay in….

Given our recent move and the seemingly endless cycle of packing everything we own into a box, simply to have to unpack everything we own from said box, I’m definitely dropping from exhaustion at the end of each day. But, I have an excellent motivation for trying to get the house in order, because my sister, brother in law and niece are visiting for Thanksgiving! They land on Tuesday, and the house needs to find some semblance of organization. At the moment, it’s looking more Fleeing My Homeland than Martha Stewart. But, maybe I can make the theme of this Thanksgiving Help Kara & Adam Unpack Their House and Also Eat Turkey.

Now that would be a party….
