There are certain types of clothing I just can’t resist. By now, you’ve realized that includes border prints. Full skirts. 1950’s deadstock. Like Pavlov’s dog, I hear the bell of vintage ring and I’m ready to answer (and drool appropriately). But, my other weakness (for some odd reason) is fruit-adorned anything. Give me a peach tree bag. Blueberry embroidery. Ice cream heels. Put fruit on it or make it resemble something consumable and the world goes fuzzy around the edges as I dreamily reach for my Visa card….
So, when I got a DM from my girl Rose awhile back with a link to these shoes, I knew I was sunk. Firstly, I didn’t even know Katy Perry was making her own footwear (my calceological skills are clearly waning). And secondly, these heels had freakin lemons on them. From the perfect lemon slices on the vamp, to the pink striped accents, to the ombre lemon yellow heel. I want to say I adulted by checking the budget and then carefully consulting my existing shoe collection to see if I really needed another pair of yellow heels (HAHAHA!). I can’t even say that with a straight face. Yeah, I didn’t even hesitate.

We are officially bounding forward into the last week of classes – where whimsical shoes are practically mandatory, as they keep me smiling. We’re at the point in the semester where the students are just over it and we professors are trying desperately not to look as though we are also over it (but let’s be honest, we’re just as ready to be done).
It’s a bittersweet time of year, though, with graduation looming and one cycle of collegiate life ending so another can begin in the fall. As the majority of my Spring classes (and current cohort of undergrads in the lab) are made up of primarily seniors, it makes me realize how many of them are off to start their next adventure. And how much I’m going to miss them. I suppose we can get a bit caught up in finishing, all the while forgetting the things that are ending. A bit of a lemon to sour the sweetness of an impending summer…
But you know what they say…
