Spring Chicken

Spring Chicken - The Dressed Aesthetic

I can definitely swing a little saccharine in my clothing choices. Ruffles, lace, flouncy skirts – they all have a place in my closet. So when I spied this sugary-sweet novelty print 1950’s dress from Second Skin Vintage, with her pastel hues and rows of chirping baby birds, I knew I had found the perfect Easter frock to help me ring in the Spring. Tis the season for pastels after all….

This past holiday weekend was everything Easter should be – full of eating too much, laughing too hard, popping the cork on too many bottles of champagne, and waking up sore from going too hard on the Wii Sports Resort all hours of the night with good people. And though I am very far from my childhood egg hunting days, I couldn’t resist a little skip around the garden to collect some colorful eggs and see what the Easter Bunny left me…. (turns out, it was Ferrero Rochers. Well done, Bunny).

There is no greater feeling than that of renewal.

Easter weekend was the first in a very long time I let myself take a bit of a break from work. I suppose that’s not entirely true – I’ve had an evening off here and there or a few hours where I might indulge in a dinner out with the Mister. But it was the first time in awhile I can remember not feeling guilty about it. There is definitely a light at the end of this semester’s tunnel and, with just a few more milestones to hit, I am finally feeling myself start to relax. So, busting out my happiest vintage prints seemed rather apropos.

If Easter is a symbol of hope, of renewal, of new life, I can certainly say that April fits the bill. With Spring just waking up and starting to stretch, I can feel us getting into the groove of our new life. We found a bit of time this weekend to finish unpacking those last few pesky boxes, hang up a bit of art, and really start to call the place our own. With family visits planned in the coming months, I’d almost say it’s starting to feel like home.

What’s a novelty bird print without her love nest, after all?
