Spring Swing

Spring Swing - The Dressed Aesthetic

With the worldwide kerfuffle that seems to be happening with the weather lately, I almost forget that there’s a plus side to cooler weather hanging around the party longer than is polite: I get to bust out some of my favorite vintage swing coats! And I have to be honest, a beauty like this embroidered Bataldi swing coat from La Belle Vintage kind of makes me long for an eternal winter…

Do you ever notice how we never long for the weather we have, but always seem to have our eye on the one next door? In winter, I dream of summer sundresses and bare feet. While fanning myself in summer, I look forward to layers and tights and a time when cups of hot cider sound appealing. No matter the season, it seems the proverbial sky is always sunnier elsewhere. But, I’m bound and determined to make the most of the current weather (though am ready and waiting to whip off this coat at the mere hint of sunshine!)

I always swore to myself I wouldn’t be one of those bloggers who goes on and on about the weather, but I just can’t seem to help myself. Yesterday was sunny and a balmy 81 degrees. Today, we’re back to low 60’s and shivering in our offices. I’m really okay with whatever Mother Nature decides, but she needs to just make a decision already

In non-weather related news, I’ve been doing a fair bit of frolicking in this amazing sheer 1950’s dress from Zest Vintage today. Believe it or not, this was a birthday gift from my beloved grad student, who apparently knows me better than I know myself. There’s something so daring about a sheer dress – you can wear a completely opaque slip, or get a bit cheeky with layers of cute underpinnings. I stayed pretty modest for work (of course) with a cami and full petticoat, but am already imagining a multi-layered lace petticoat for a bit of extra texture, or embroidered boyshorts and a bandeau for strolling along the beach with my Mister this summer.

With summer approaching, the possibilities are endless…
