Wood Nymph

This past weekend, we traveled eastward to the most beautiful Araluen Botanical Gardens to celebrate two of our gorgeous friends getting married. Their wedding actually took place in Scotland, with the reception back in Perth. The invitation said that the bride and groom would be decked out in their highland finery, and asked that we come as Lords and Ladys, Pirates and Faeries. Naturally, I opted for Wood Nymph…

The funny thing to me is just how many dresses I have that suit faerie attire, that are simply made for frolicking amongst the woodland creatures. I actually had another stunning vintage dress planned, but when I slipped her over my head and went to zip her up, I noticed a pop seam. With no time for Project Runway moment as we were already running late, I zipped to my wardrobe of tricks and found this beauty, ready and waiting, as if to say, “Silly girl. You should have chosen me all along.”

Believe it or not, I actually DID have faerie wings to accompany this outfit. But, we picked them up after outfit photos were taken and somehow, I managed to not get a single photo at the reception while sporting my wings (which is usually the way when you’re having way too much fun). However, I can assure you they were quite the hit. When I ditched them in favor of my black velvet cloak as the chill set in, I had many asking me what I had done to make the Faerie Convention strip me of my wings….

There is something so magical about weddings…and even more so, something so magical about the way each wedding I’ve been to really celebrates each couple. This one in particular – there we were, in the middle of the most stunning botanic park, surrounded by medieval fare, Celtic warriors, and fair maidens, trailing through the gardens like some sort of whimsical fairy tale. We sipped mead, chomped on Turkey legs, and stained our teeth from far too much (just enough?) mulled wine. Passersby would stop and ask if we were filming for a movie and I even had one family ask if their kids could take a photo with us. It was truly magical and very very special.

Seen any true love lately?
