{Winner}: For the Greater Good

Happy September, everyone! Last month, I hosted an amazing giveaway in collaboration with GreaterGoodsVintage, which combined vintage AND giving something back to the greater good. Owned and run by Mikala, GreaterGoodsVintage is both a vintage shop and a platform to raise money and awareness for charities around the globe. GreaterGoods truly lives up to it’s name – 10% of every sale through her Etsy shop goes to charity (always a non-religious, non-government affiliated group). Mikala also switches every few months to a different group, after ensuring they have traceable success ratings.

A quick recap of the contest:

Up for grabs to readers of The Dressed Aesthetic was a shop credit of $100.00 USD, good towards anything in the GreaterGoodsVintage Etsy shop. But, this vintage giveaway came with a twist – entrants had to detail a cause or charity that was important to them. The winner would receive the shop credit and their nominated cause or organization would receive a percentage of the proceeds from GreaterGoods’ September Sales!

So, with the appropriate level of fanfare, the winner of the $100 gift card to Greater Goods Vintage is….

(drumroll please)

🎉WINNER: Brianne 🎉✨

Even better, GGV is donating 10% of September sales to Brianne’s chosen charity: Ocean Conservancy

I couldn’t be more excited for you, Brianne! You will be emailed shortly with details on how to claim your prize. Marine conservation is very near and dear to me personally, and I’m a huge advocate for the good work done by the Ocean Conservancy, with a true vision towards a healthy, balanced marine ecosystem. From their website:

“Ocean Conservancy educates and empowers citizens to take action on behalf of the ocean. From the Arctic to the Gulf of Mexico to the halls of Congress, Ocean Conservancy brings people together to find solutions for our water planet. Informed by science, our work guides policy and engages people in protecting the ocean and its wildlife for future generations.”

If you want to learn more about Ocean Conservancy, I encourage you to keep up with their good work via their website, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter and, if you’re feeling inspired, get involved!

I had an amazing time collaborating with Mikala on this – not only am I completely smitten with this mint green piped beauty, but every time I wear her she’ll remind me of the million small ways we can make a difference, simply by changing our mindset and making good choices when it comes to where we shop. This giveaway was an amazing way to support cause you feel passionate about – and be rewarded for your good deed with beautiful vintage.

I also had the chance to catch up with GGV on their process when it comes to choosing the cause to support each month and how she was able to tackle the tough task of choosing a winner for this giveaway, amongst a sea of so many worthy charities. Here’s a message from the amazing Mikala:

Mikala: “I was overwhelmed by the incredible nominations submitted in our little contest here on The Dressed Aesthetic and the many passionate people who sent them. Thank you all so much. I have learned a lot about the different causes and organizations nominated. I got a little swept up in them, in fact, and it took me a long time to choose just one.

When I chose a charity to work with, I look for three things. Transparency, Efficiency and Effectiveness. So far, GreaterGoodsVintage has been raising funds and awareness for organizations that are changing the lives of people around the world in sustainable, lasting ways. For the months of September AND October, however, we are going to broaden our focus to changing life itself. We are proud to announce that from our nominees we have chosen to support The Ocean Conservancy in their efforts to protect the most vital and most vast parts of the Earth, our waters. Every day the brilliant and earnest men and women working in and with this organization are using their knowledge and skill sets to repair, restore and rehabilitate our planet, as well as to educate and empower individuals and governments to personally and collectively take care of their world. They face huge opposition – big corporations with lots of money and bad manners – and stand like a small but brave army of science soldiers fighting against a giant army of greed and more bad manners to promote the truth: without healthy oceans, our planet could not sustain life.

Of all the issues that were laid before me in this competition, I could not help but feel that by supporting this group of scientists and activists in their fight for the planet, we would also be promoting the ideas that knowledge/literacy is power – that other species should be treated with respect – that everyone deserves the basic rights of food, safety and equality –  that despite our differences, our common ground is the planet we live on – and that unless we make a serious commitment to protect it, the problems of the future will be too big for any organization to tackle. It brings me great joy to know that the vintage beauties at GreaterGoodsVintage will be continuing their legacies by supporting The Ocean Conservancy and helping to not just for the GreaterGood of today, but for the possibility of a future.

I’m so grateful to all who participated in the contest and I’m incredibly grateful to Kara for giving all of us a “soap box” to stand on to talk about what WE want our style to stand for.

I am truly inspired by the heartfelt passion of GreaterGoodsVintage for taking action and providing an opportunity to their customers to become part of the solution, so that we might then feel inspired to collectively take small steps to incite change, which become bigger steps that ultimately changing the world. And I was equally inspired by the passion shown by all of my readers, as they detailed the causes that mattered most to them!

Thank you to everyone who participated in the giveaway, and for bringing all of your amazing charities to the forefront of public attention and serving as a champion for so many worthy causes. It really doesn’t take a huge amount of effort to affect small change in the world.

Congrats again Brianne!
